December 2015

Hello, my name is Megan (Kries) McGuire.  I married Michael, the man of my dreams, in September 2014.  He is the most amazing, hard-working, caring, thoughtful, and faithful man.  He is so funny and has the best personality – making everyone love him from the second they meet him.  We love to play golf, cheer for the Colts, spend time with family/friends and our 2 toy poodles; Divot and Birdie.  Also, he is an amazing cook!

Michael had been complaining about a sudden, severe headache for 2 days while he was traveling for work.  He is a surgical sales rep and said this is his dream job!!  He has worked so hard to get to where he is professionally and covers many states around Indiana.

On Saturday, October 10, 2015, Michael woke up at 3 am very confused and not speaking clearly.  I took him to the emergency room and after a CT scan, the Dr. said he has bleeding and swelling on his brain – we were transferred to the Neurology ICU Unit.  Michael was diagnosed with Dural Venous Sinus Thrombosis.  He was monitored for the first few days and had lots of testing done to figure out why this happened.  Then on Monday, October 12, 2015, he was rushed into surgery at midnight to help reduce the severe swelling/pressure on his brain by removing a portion of his skull.  To this day, we don’t know why this has happened and the Dr. said we may never know.

Michael spent 20 days in the Neuro ICU, 7 days in Acute Neuro and 40 days in a rehabilitation facility to get stronger.  We were told that he was ready to have the portion of his skull replaced and he had surgery on December 14, 2015 – only to be told afterward that in fact he was NOT ready and there was still too much swelling.   After many months, he had surgery on February 29, 2016 and the portion of his skull was replaced!  His speech has been affected, communication is very difficult and he has to re-learn how to talk and read.  We are told this is going to be a very long recovery process.

Our families and I know there are so many people praying for Michael all over the country.  He is my rock and my everything.  We have so much fun together and are so in love – I miss hearing his voice every day.  I know that God is in control and has his arms around Michael – we have already seen that during this process.

We thank you so much for all the love, support and prayers during this extremely difficult time.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”    Jeremiah 29:11
